About Me

I have always been interested in history, but after seeking a change from working in publishing and a variety of office jobs, I took a history degree and then became particularly interested in genealogy. Around fifteen years ago I started to study my own family tree and then developed my research skills further by helping others with theirs.

On the path to reaching a professional standard, I have achieved qualifications which include a BA (Hons) History, 1st Class, from the Open University which featured a module in local history and a PG Cert in Genealogical, Heraldic & Palaeographic Studies from Strathclyde University.

I have participated in transcribing projects for Suffolk Family History Society and Greenwich Maritime Museum. I am an Member of AGRA (Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives) and a member of FIBIS (Families in British India Society).

If you want to see an example of some of my earlier genealogy research work, please have a look at my hobby site www.haverhillwhitings.com. It is a one-name, one-town study which tracks the genealogy of my maternal grandmother's surname 'Whiting' in Haverhill from early to modern times, devoting a whole page to each of the 250+ people in the Whiting family tree.
